- EPFO hasn’t given a set date for when it will credit FY2025-26 interest to members’ PF accounts.
- The Central Board of Trustees set an 8.25% yearly EPF interest rate in March. Credit to accounts will start after the government issues a formal notice.
- Members have options to track updates using the EPFO passbook, the UMANG app, or by missed-call and SMS services.
Millions of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation members haven’t seen the 8.25% interest for FY2025-26 show up in their accounts yet, and there’s no official word from EPFO on when that will happen. Aaj Tak reported Saturday that, if EPFO follows earlier trends, the interest could get credited anytime from June to September. But so far, EPFO hasn’t committed to any date.
EPFO’s Central Board of Trustees recommended the 8.25% annual interest rate for FY2025-26 back on March 2, according to the Labour Ministry. The ministry said the government will notify the rate. Once official, EPFO will credit the interest to subscriber accounts. Press Information Bureau
The delay is key for salaried workers, who rely on EPF for retirement savings and watch the yearly interest entry to plan withdrawals, job moves, and their retirement cash. The 8.25% rate stays the same as last year. The ministry called it a stable return, crediting EPFO’s investment discipline and gains from exchange-traded funds and other assets. Members shouldn’t worry if EPF interest doesn’t show up right away in their passbook. Economic Times, citing EPF Scheme rules, said interest is worked out on the monthly running balance and compounded once a year. The whole eligible interest gets credited, even if the entry shows up after some time. The Economic Times
Members are advised to check their passbooks for the interest line updated through March 31, 2026. Mint said the update may hit EPF passbooks at different times, since EPFO updates millions of accounts after getting the nod from the government and needs to reconcile all the records. mint
EPFO members have a few ways to check their balance: the member passbook portal, the UMANG app, a missed call to 9966044425, or an SMS in the suggested format to 7738299899. The official EPFO passbook page lists the missed-call and SMS enquiry methods. The site also warns users not to share Aadhaar, PAN, bank account details, or OTPs, and not to pay anyone based on calls claiming to be from EPFO. EPFO Member Passbook
Right now, markets are waiting for the government to formally notify the FY2025-26 rate and for passbook updates to begin. Before that, members could see some staggered updates in their accounts. EPFO has recommended 8.25%, but there is no guaranteed credit date announced yet.
