Unichem Laboratories Limited grabbed attention Thursday as the stock ripped higher on a surge of trades, though some of that momentum faded by the end of the session. Shares finished at ₹462.60 on the NSE, a gain of ₹25.20, or 5.76%. Combined volume on the NSE and BSE came in at 26.3 million shares, according to Trendlyne.
Unichem Laboratories had an even bigger jump earlier, with shares soaring up to 17% to ₹515.55 during the day on the BSE, according to Business Standard. By 12:36 p.m., the stock was still up 13% at ₹496.70, with trading volumes more than seven times their typical level.
Heightened trading caught the exchange’s eye, prompting a clarification. In a June 11 filing to the NSE, Unichem referenced the exchange’s June 10 surveillance letter that had flagged the spike in volume. Pradeep Bhandari, Head – Legal & Company Secretary, said the increase was “purely market driven,” adding there was nothing more to disclose beyond what regulation requires.
The stock surged even as Indian benchmarks finished a bit weaker. Nifty 50 edged down 0.23% to 23,161.60; Sensex gave up 0.20% to close at 73,832.55. Pharma names managed to land in the green, per the latest closing numbers.
Despite Thursday’s gains, Unichem shares are still trading far under the 52-week peak. According to ICICI Direct, the stock’s 52-week range runs from ₹278.20 up to ₹666.60, with market cap settling at ₹3,256.98 crore at the close on June 11.
March-quarter numbers marked the most recent earnings test for the company. According to Business Standard’s data, Q4 FY26 revenue landed at ₹575.12 crore—a 2.05% drop from a year ago. Net profit? ₹10.91 crore, off sharply, tumbling 79.40% from the same stretch last year.
The year as a whole turned up better results. According to Aditya Birla Money’s company snapshot, FY26 net profit jumped 83.86% to ₹252.84 crore. Annual sales climbed 4.31%, reaching ₹2,201.85 crore.
Unichem’s FY26 results flag some large exceptional items shaping the year’s figures: a ₹275.52 crore net gain from selling land and building, a ₹58.26 crore hit from interest tied to a European Commission fine, and total net exceptional income for the year landing at ₹201.86 crore.
ICRA, quoted by Business Standard, points to Unichem’s established foothold in pharmaceutical formulations and a significant revenue stream out of key regulated markets like the US and Europe. According to the report, ICRA anticipates a gradual uptick in revenue and margins for the company, citing a volume-driven recovery and its integration with parent Ipca as supportive factors. Even so, raw-material and freight expenses are flagged as ongoing headwinds in the near term.
Unichem told exchanges on June 10 it’s scheduling its annual general meeting for Tuesday, August 11, 2026. In the same batch of disclosures, June filings pointed to share transfers and unclaimed dividends moving to the Investor Education and Protection Fund.
