Vodafone Idea Ltd shares gained 2.09% on Thursday to settle at ₹14.17 on the NSE, up ₹0.29. The stock opened at ₹13.78 and moved in a range from ₹13.73 to ₹14.49. Volume came in at 80.24 crore shares. The Nifty 50 fell 0.23% to 23,161.6 and the BSE Sensex slipped 0.2% to 73,832.55.
Vodafone Idea held its extraordinary general meeting after the close, as investors watched for updates. According to an exchange filing, the EGM ran from 4:30 p.m. to 5:14 p.m. IST over video conference, chaired by Kumar Mangalam Birla. The meeting’s main agenda was a special resolution on “Issuance of Warrants on preferential basis.”
Shareholders late last night cleared the ₹4,730-crore investment in Vodafone Idea from the Aditya Birla Group, ET said, citing a preferential allotment of warrants. According to the report, the AB Group’s holding will move up to about 13% from 9.6%. Birla told the paper, “The focus now shifts firmly to execution.” The Economic Times
Vodafone Idea plans to issue as many as 430 crore warrants at ₹11 apiece to Suryaja Investments Pte. Ltd., according to the EGM notice. Suryaja Investments, based in Singapore, is part of the Aditya Birla Group and counts as a promoter group firm. Each warrant, which can turn into one fully paid share, is exercisable within 18 months.
Use of funds is key for the stock. ₹1,730 crore is set aside for network expansion through March 2028. Another ₹3,000 crore would go toward paying back loans for network capex by December 2027. Acuité Ratings and Research Ltd will monitor how proceeds are spent, according to the notice.
Vodafone Idea started the week with less regulatory pressure after the Bombay High Court ruled in its favor on the OTSC case. In a June 9 exchange filing, the company said the Department of Telecommunications’ demand notices against the old Idea Cellular and Spice Communications, totaling ₹2,113 crore, were set aside and its bank guarantees will be returned. The court order was dated June 8, 2026, and attached in the filing.
The gain landed in a risk-off session. Reuters said Thursday saw 12 of 16 big sectors drop. Small-caps slipped 0.7%, mid-caps fell 0.8%. Fears about fresh Middle East tensions and stubborn U.S. inflation kept buyers cautious.
Vodafone Idea ended Thursday with a market cap near ₹1.54 lakh crore, according to ET data. The stock traded between ₹6.12 and ₹15.25 over the past 52 weeks. Over the last month, shares have jumped 16.34%. They’re up 104.18% on the year. Investors are watching for updates on the formal allotment and how fast the new funds will be put to work on network expansion and repayments.
